Should we use immune boosters to get rid of the coronavirus?

Among the people who are hospitalized due to coronavirus, those with the most severe and fatal medical conditions are patients whose bodies overreact to the virus. In this case, the immune cells move to the site of infection (lungs in the coronavirus) at an extreme level and actually attack the lungs they are supposed to protect. In turn, blood vessels leak, and blood begins to clot. Blood pressure suddenly drops and internal organs collapse. More and more physicians and scientists start to believe that these medical conditions are not caused by the virus itself, but by the overreaction of our immune system to the virus. So the defense mechanism of our body is actually starting to cause damage, instead of supporting us.

Such hyperactive immune system reactions tend to occur under certain conditions. It often develops in against an infection (Coronavirus, Avian Influenza), as a result of a false gene mutation (Cancer, Lymphoma), or due to auto-immune diseases (Celiac, MS, Type-1 Diabetes). In such cases, the body begins to consider its own tissues as invaders and actually destroys healthy tissues that they it is supposed to protect. All these immune disorders are described with the term "Cytokine Storm" under the umbrella of the Cytokine Release Syndrome, since these substances, called Cytokines, begin to overact in the bloodstream. These small proteins normally travel between cells as messengers of the defense army of our body, demanding more or less immune activity depending on the actual conditions. However, when the immune-system demands more than necessary, the body starts to fight itself. For all these reasons, it is very important that we achieve a certain balance when using vitamin supplements, immune boosters and other substances that may activate the immune system more than necessary.
